Kinds of Kindness is a triptych fable, following a man without choice who tries to take control of his own life; a policeman who is alarmed that his wife who was missing-at-sea has returned and seems a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability, who is destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader.

This is the second Lanthimos film I’ve genuinely loved, after the stunning Poor Things — and I completely disagree with the audience ratings.
Each of the three stories can be interpreted in different ways, and there’s no single explanation for what’s actually happening. The acting is excellent and the cast is superb. But even if you have no idea what’s going on, the film has this strange, mesmerising pull that makes you want to keep watching — and I really appreciate that about Lanthimos. His films are never boring or exhausting, even when they’re completely incomprehensible.
I liked the first story the most, and the third reminded me of Midsommar — it touches on cult themes and tells the main character’s story really well. I’ve previously watched The Lobster and The Killing of a Sacred Deer, but neither of them resonated with me enough to write about. Maybe I’ll revisit them one day.
Overall, I really liked this film. I recommend it to fans of weird cinema — 8.3/10.
